Sajiku® from PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA reduce The Plastic Usage up to 9,5 % in 2021
Jakarta - Sajiku® from PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA has committed to supporting the reduction plastic usage by reducing the thickness of its packaging. Based on the data from the Indonesia Olefin, Aromatic and Plastic Association (INAPLAS) and Statistic Indonesia (BPS), plastic waste in Indonesia has reached 60 million tons per year, and around 3.2 million tons are plastic wastes that are thrown in the ocean.
Based on the World Bank 2018, there are 87 cities in Indonesia that contributed to around 1.27 million tons of marine waste. Consisted are 9 million tons of plastic waste, and this has been a serious problem in the Indonesian society.
Sajiku® contribution to this problem is to reduce the usage of plastic in each product's packaging, including their new variant known as, Bumbu tahu dan tempe goreng.
“We've reduced the thickness of the plastic used for packaging, from 2.34g to 2.12g per pack,” said Brand Manager of Sajiku®, Endang Pamularsih.
Through this attempt, Sajiku® have successfully lowered roughly 9.5% of plastic in each packaging. "Thickness is an important aspect in packaging. The thinner the packaging, the less plastic is applied in production,” she continued.
Plastic reduction has been agreed upon since December 2020 and will continue on for the next few years.
Additionally, Endang has carried out research on other products to lessen plastic compositions. "It's an undergoing process and needs further research, but we will keep our activity toward improving environmental issues.” said Endang.
Fadhillah, Fajri, Indonesian Center for Environmental Law (ICEL) supports industrial plastic reduction policy. In his opinion, the issue of plastic usage should be resolved by everyone, including corporations that actively use plastic for its products. There should be a road map to show the decline of plastic usage annually in the foreseeable future.
"Producers have the responsibility to limit the waste produced by implementing a less waste disposal process,” said Fadhillah.
