These are the words of Dr. Kikunae Ikeda, the Japanese scientist who discovered the taste “umami” over a century ago. Ikeda determined that the main component of umami is glutamic acid, one of the amino acids. Ikeda’s desire to improve diets in Japan at the time, and his wish "to make simple food a bit more tasty," led to the invention of the umami seasoning AJI-NO-MOTO® that enhances the deliciousness of ingredients.

Historical Journey

Ajinomoto Indonesia Group which is part of the Ajinomoto Global Group, has been present in Indonesia since 1969. Currently, Ajinomoto Indonesia has 2 factories, at Mojokerto (East Java), and Karawang (KIIC – West Java). Ajinomoto Indonesia Group consists of PT Ajinomoto Indonesia, PT Ajinomoto Sales Indonesia, and PT Ajinex International. Currently, PT Ajinomoto Sales Indonesia has 4 sales branch offices in Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan and Makassar.

Dr. Kikunae Ikeda (Professor from the University of Tokyo) obtained a patent to produce Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) as a (savory) umami flavoring
Saburosuke Suzuki II first sold the AJI-NO-MOTO® umami seasoning. Started to be marketed on May 20,1909
PT Ajinomoto Indonesia was established in July 1969
