AJINOMOTO INDONESIA Conduct New Webinar Event To Support Mothers Control Hypertension In Pregnancy & Strengthening Immune System

Jakarta - PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA in collaboration with GIZI KEBUGARAN INDONESIA held a Webinar Event: "The Role of Nutrition as a Step to Control Hypertension and Maintain Immunity in Pregnancy", as an effort to support mothers to stay healthy by disseminating the informative facts about Umami Seasoning and Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

This webinar is a series of events that will be held at the end of October 2020 to February 2021. One of the speakers in the previous event was Dr. Toto Sudargo, SKM., M.Kes, Head of the Health Nutrition Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, from Gadjah Mada University (UGM). The number of participants in this webinar reached 311, and most came from the midwives and midwifery students.

In fact, hypertension still has the potential to occur in mothers who are pregnant. The incidence rate of pre-eclampsia (hypertension in pregnancy) is actually higher in developing countries like Indonesia, where the percentage reaches around 7 - 10%.

According to Dr. Toto Sudargo, controlling calorie intake and other nutrients is very important to prevent the risk of hypertension in pregnancy. There are several ways to prevent hypertension in pregnancy, as well as increase the immunity of the mother and the fetus she is carrying. One way is to adopt a diet that increases in vegetables and fish, and a low-salt diet strategy.

"A study shows that a diet rich in vegetables and fish reduces the chances of developing gestational hypertension by 14% and pre-eclampsia by 21%," said Dr. Toto, at webinar event.

"Then, by doing a low salt diet, of course it can also reduce the risk of hypertension in pregnancy. If we want the food we consume to have high taste, but also want a low-salt diet, using Umami Seasoning like MSG can be a solution. Many studies abroad suggest that the use of MSG can be a strategy for a low salt diet. Because, the sodium content in MSG is only 1/3 of the sodium content in normal table salt,” he continued.
