Jakarta, 21 Februari 2023 – Plastic waste is still one of the environmental problems in Indonesia today. Based on data from The World Bank 2021, Indonesia produces around 7.8 million tons of plastic waste every year. As many as 4.9 million tons of plastic waste are not managed properly, for example not being collected, disposed of in open dumps, or leaking from landfills that are not managed properly.

Very concerned about this, the Ajinomoto Indonesia Group (Ajinomoto) has made various efforts to reduce the problem of plastic waste. Internally, Ajinomoto educates all employees not only to dispose of waste in its place, but also to sort waste. Externally, through the Masako®, AJI-NO-MOTO®, and Sajiku® Brand, they also contribute to reducing plastic waste by reducing the use of plastic materials in each packaging. In addition, Ajinomoto continues to innovate and is committed to supporting the government in tackling waste by launching a waste station facility.

"For internal employees, we have a Health provider program, so in this program we increase the literacy and knowledge of all employees about various efforts to reduce the environmental impact carried out by the company, so that our employees can not only contribute to reducing the impact of environmental damage, they can also explain it back to the community. more broadly as a Health provider for The Earth. For the health and preservation of the earth, in particular the Ajinomoto Indonesia Group wants to contribute to reducing waste pollution in the sea." said Grant Senjaya - Head of Public Relations Dept of PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA.

"Then for external, we have innovation and committed to support Indonesia government in tackling waste problem through the MSG AJI-NO-MOTO® Brand which reducing up to 30% the use of plastic material in its packaging, Masako® Brand reducing up to 8.4% in each 8.5 gram package and Sajiku®  Brand reducing up to 9.5% in each package. Then, we also have innovation to launch a waste station facility, in collaboration with one of the start-up recycling companies in Indonesia, Rekosistem, which in its implementation is supported by an android & ios based platform. This platform is very easy to use for the community to deposit garbage. Not only making waste station facilities with Rekosistem, we also continue to educate the public to sort waste from its source," he continued.

In addition, Ajinomoto factory in Karawang & Mojokerto also reduces domestic waste generated from production waste and leftover canteen food. At the Karawang Factory, domestic waste produced and canteen food waste are reprocessed to be used as animal feed, in collaboration with PT Ray Hikmah Jaya (RHJ) Feed Mill. At the Mojokerto Factory, domestic waste produced from canteen food and other is reprocessed into various co-products such as FML & TRITAN, which can be used as nutrition alternatives for animal feed.

Towards 2030, Ajinomoto has two big goals, the first is to increase the quality and healthy life expectancy of Indonesian families and the second to reduce the environmental impact of the company's activities. To realize this commitment, the Ajinomoto Indonesia Group is also increasing the literacy and knowledge of all of its employees to serve as Health Providers. Health Providers consist of Health providers for Human Being and Health providers for The Earth, because the Ajinomoto Indonesia Group cares about improving the health of all people and the earth (environment).
